Many years ago, I like many used to happily surf the net and work away on my home computer using the likes of a 17" screen, typically 1280x1024 resolution. I am not going further back than that, as i will be showing my age then! (How did we manage on 15" 1024x768 or smaller CRT screens?)
The LCD displays started to become the norm. I upgraded the CRT to an LCD, which was a pleasant change. Displays kept falling in price and as Windows started to support multi displays, I thought it was time to change.
I upgraded to Dual 19" 1280x1024 displays, and since then have never looked back, and often wonder how I cope at work with a single display, when running the dual setup at home.
How times change. I was becoming more and more annoyed with the low resolution of the individual displays on my dual setup. Using Visual Studio was becoming a pain, and I found I began doing more and more work on my 16" Acer laptop, because it had a higher vertical resolution. Yes, it was time to change again.
Fortunately I had already installed a couple of years back a Nvidia 8800 GT card some years back that had Dual DVI outputs and supports up to 2560x1600. Perfect, no need to replace that.
I managed to find a very well priced NEW Dell 3008WFP online [It was well below the price Dell are quoting on their site]. This is the daddy of displays. It is a 30" 2560x1600 LCD. A couple of clicks later and the order was placed.
When it arrived and i opened up the box, it looked truly amazing. And i hadn't even plugged it in yet. It has USB Ports, SD Card Readers, HDMI and a host of other input and outputs.
I unplugged the old 19" Primary display, plugged in the New Display, changed a couple of setting in Windows 7 Display Settings and the screen popped into life, and let me tell you, popped is a total understatement. This thing was stunning. Crisp, Bright display, with more real estate than a small country.
Opening up email, web browser (IE8), another web browser (Chrome), oh wait, i still have room? How about an Explorer view...............ah, this is the life. No screen bezel down the middle, no windows spread across the screens.
What more can I say!
